Washington lobbyist and longtime Republican operative Wayne Berman is in the running to replace John Kelly as White House chief of staff, a source in contact with the president tells Cockburn.

Berman is currently a senior lobbyist for private equity firm Blackstone Group. He was an advisor for both of George W. Bush’s presidential campaigns and finance chair of John McCain’s 2008 run and Marco Rubio’s 2016 run. Berman is certainly part of the ‘swamp’. But Trump hasn’t done much to drain that.

Kelly, like all members of the Trump administration, has little job security, especially after receiving criticism from the press for his handling of former White House aide Rob Porter, who was accused of domestic abuse.

Trump is more hesitant to fire people than people think. The president has been upset with Attorney General Jeff Sessions since last spring, but has yet to act.

Besides Berman, many news reports have fingered White House budget director and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau chief Mick Mulvaney as a replacement for Kelly.

Mulvaney, a former Tea Party congressman, would strengthen the White House’s ties to a conservative lawmakers who have yet to deliver on several key promises.
