Dr Sebastian Gorka, the much-maligned television personality, defence brain and former Trump official, is making moves again. At the moment, his recent career path seems remarkably similar to the one pursued by John Bolton, which eventually delivered the former U.N. ambassador back to power last month.

Whether Gorka, who worked in the office of former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon, aspires to get back into the Trump White House anytime soon – or whether the President feels he is more effective ‘on the outside’ – is not clear. But with the revolving door between Fox News and 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in full swing these days, it seems eminently plausible.

A well-placed source tells Cockburn that President Trump would hire back Gorka for some sort of role if he could get away with it. Gorka was ousted in August by then new Chief of Staff John Kelly.

And Cockburn has learned Gorka will succeed Bolton in one respect: the ambassador’s weekly radio appearances, like clockwork, every Thursday morning on Breitbart’s SiriusXM radio show. An extremely rare, sudden cancellation by Bolton mid-last month combined with a scheduled White House national security call at the same time set off chatter that Bolton would be named national security advisor that morning. He got the prize only days later.

Bolton’s appearances on the Breitbart show helped solidify him as a hero of Trump’s base, and kept up his national profile. Also, as Bannon, formerly Breitbart’s chairman, pointed out, Bolton had converted from being “a [George W.] Bush guy to being a Trump guy.”

Gorka has already proven his loyalty to the President. He could also be upping his Fox News hits in the coming weeks, striving to become a true mainstay like Bolton.

With Bolton and the sudden departure of the inveterate hawk Ralph Peters, Fox is suddenly wanting in the national security stakes. A well-placed source informs Cockburn that Fox is hiring and upping the payments for a range of positions, and scouring the scene to replace Bolton and Peters.

Further, as Politico explains in-depth this morning, it was Bolton’s PAC that garnered him support from a range of right-wingers across the country. Gorka has quietly followed a similar course, appearing at fundraisers and on behalf of candidates across the country, including Danny Tarkanian, a Bannon favourite in Nevada.

Where Bolton led, Gorka may follow – all the way back to the White House.
